Reflective Blog Entry

This semester I have changed greatly.  I have learned more about how to use the Mac applications. I have learned how to use the Kens Burn Effect, how to make things multi colored, and how to get answers to my questions simply by googling them. I have become slightly more social and will probably continue to be more social. I know that I have learned what certain people like or dislike.

I'm very proud of all of my pieces, but the one I"m most proud of was my RBOC opening scene. I think that the sound effects made it really stand out. There was so many things to take in to consideration, and I think that I made excellent choices.

One of my most challenging projects was my Industrial Revolution group presentation. I had some trouble with my group. I got really frustrated when my group started to fall behind. I have trouble working with laggers and people who oppose my ideas because they think theirs is better than mine. Personally, I would rather work alone, and possibly in pair. Large groups make it challenging to get my ideas in play, and usually the ideas that do get excepted in place of mine fall far below my work standards.

One of my favorite projects was the lorax. It was my favorite because it was based off something I wrote, therefore I didn't have a hard time planning out how I was to put the project together. I also knew how I want my project to look.

I hope that in the second semester I will learn how to use the rest of the Mac applications. I will also learn to do things without feedback.

  1. I think that everyone is trying to improve on their own technology skills and master certain applications. I also agree that the scenes for RBOC were very fun to make because of the use of sound effects and movement. I think its a good goal for everyone to become more social since were with the same kids 3 class periods in a row so we don't interact with most of the kids at our school. I also thought the IR Group project was difficult but for different reasons. You had issues with your group while I had trouble with presenting. I too like working in pairs but like working in groups more. I think you will be able to learn the rest of the Mac applications. Is there any particular group or individual application you are looking to master.

  2. I have also learned how to use a Mac. The Ken Burn’s Effect is very helpful in some projects, but I know from personal experience using it, it can become very boring to watch for a long time. Being in Block I, I do not know you that well or how you work, but it seems that you have grown since the beginning of the school year. I had a different experience with the Industrial Revolution project, my group worked well and it was an easy assignment. But, I agree that large groups make it so you have a lot of people to compete with to use your ideas, and sadly majority rules some times, even when it may not be for the better. If you work with people who aren’t “laggers” and who have some similar ideas/opinions as you do, would you then like to work with a group? Sometimes for me I have the same trouble with groups, and it is hard for me to be a group member, but sometimes when working with other people, there are more ideas and opinions, which can be good, or bad. I think that it is great to do something all on your own, what you want, but a little feedback every now and then isn’t bad, because they are your audience!

  3. I have to say that I think it is a great goal to try to become more social. When I came to the DLC in the seventh grade, I came with a class of about 20 other kids from Sonoran Sky who had been in the same class since the 4th or 5th grade. It was more difficult to some then it was to others, but we all ended up blending with other kids that were and were not in the DLC after all. I personally found it much more natural then some of my other peers did. It's probably not going to be one of the things that just happens overnight, but will be more of a gradual blending.

Also, I had the same problem when working in groups. I personally still prefer to work independently, but that isn't always an option. What I came to realize is that; if these are the people that I have to work with, I might as well make the best of it. Each person has individual things that they are good at and can contribute to the group. Unfortunately, everyone's ideas can't always be picked. It's not really something that can change, but something one must learn to except. It seems everyone gets a chance to go through with their ideas sometime or another in the end.
